EARLY CHILDHOOD

Children need to be physically active and learn better when activities combine meaningful information, music and physical activity.

  • Provide multi-sensory activities that will provide multiple pathways to “wire the brain.”  Example:  A child is learning about the letter A and words that begin with A while they pretend to fly an airplane, act like an ant, or an alligator.
  • “Movement wires the brain. Educators must understand and value the learner’s sensory (brain) and motor (body) integration.
  • Understand that children have very short attention spans and must move often.

What you can do!

Teachers should review the daily schedule and plan for frequent energizers or brain breaks.

Review academic concepts and use music and movement to support those concepts.
